It was obvious to me whilst attending the hair expo in Sydney Australia, that the trend in men's hair and fashion are what I would call modern vintage.
Short back and side hairstyles are making a come back with a variation of fringes "or" no fringe at all even with the odd side part.
Their clothes are very school boyish either business suits and shirts or dress shorts with long socks pulled up and blazers.
Although womens fashion is ever changing, because we have more influence it is always revolving back to previous era's fashion trends.
As I'm sure you will have heard your mother or grandmother say " I used to have a similar haircut or fashion style to you when I was your age."
The fashion in hair is refering back to the basic fundamentals of hairdressing but with a modern twist.
Volume, Curls, Waves, Crimps, Braids, Fingerwaves, Frenchrolls and colours are becoming more luminous, less pieces of colour and more all over colour.

What an amazing experience hair expo was...
Hair fashions are focusing towards big hairstyles worked more at the front of the head. Crimping is becoming very popular again, so pull out your old crimpers, dust the spider webs off them & start crimping your hair again.
Hairstyles are a lot more softer & look unfinished (cobweb look). To keep the natural look pull pieces out softly from the hairup to give it a lived in look. Also fingerwaves, pincurls, braids & waves are still very popular.
I have naturally curly hair so I understand how hard it is to know what products are right for our hair so use hair balms & creams for curly hair instead of gels (See our "tips 'n' tricks" page). Dry hair very slowly with a diffuser to reduce fluffy curls.
Vidal Sassoon UK creative team focused their collection around 1930's with sharp lines, more precise, technical also tight perms in panels of the hair are making a comeback.
Their colours were influenced by the liquid metal look like dark charcoals, apricots & silver tones.
Just remember when your thinking of hair for this season think BIG.

I thought the expo was absolutely fantastic. There wasn’t much there that we don’t have in New Zealand, like L’Oreal and other professional brands but there were a whole lot of scissors and amazing Hair dressing equipment which I think made all of us want to break the bank.
We went to a few look and learn seminars. This was a great opportunity to see lots of different stylists from around Australia impress us with their knowledge.
Suki: This was one of the first seminars we went to which was both cut and style. I loved the fact that finger waves are back in so those 1920’s lovers out there, you are in. So ask your stylist how it can be incorporated in your hair.
Tracy Hughes/Philip Barwick: All that we have been doing and more. Strong bold cuts and colours 1980’s undercuts. As for the last few years this has been the trend but it is still going strong, now with a mix of corporate and street.
Sassoon: The mix of texture and colour was way out there. Curl and smooth all in one beautiful combinations on one head. It has made me think a lot more about permanent waving and how it can be used in the salon.
Talk to your stylists about what’s in this season.
Curl: Any shape any size how can it be incorporated in your look.
Cut: Bold strong modern day 1980’s would this suit you?
Colour: Should be seen and suit your shape.
